WHAT YOUR PASTOR REALLY WANTS AND IT’S NOT SLUTS
I was cycling the other day and this idea popped into my head. Usually, I try and filter some of these thoughts. When you’re cycling endorphins are pumping. I can get overhyped on ideas, which has happened to me hundreds of times. However, I’m gonna dig in and let this one rip.
In most places around the world, churches have been forced to meet online. It’s been an innovative masterpiece for some, a hellish nightmare for others.
In this season of everyone jumping online and checking out church, it’s paramount to understand this very religious thought from Crosby, Stills & Nash (wink wink)
Love the one you’re with. — Crosby, Stills & Nash
What do I mean by that?
You remember in high school when ‘that’ girl or ‘that’ guy were known to be the one’s who were ‘hookin’ up’? It was kind of cool back then because most were either kind of scared or never had the chance.
Then, you fast forward to college. Everyone is smash’n and it seems like it’s not just on the weekends but during the week. It’s a full blown f fest. Welcome to Spring Break 3.0
When I used to hear stories from the weekend, I’d be like, “yah, she’s a ho, or that dude is dirty as f — doesn’t surprise me. I wouldn’t be f’n with them either.”
It paints a negative picture about girls and guys like this. And, while everyone may think they wanna smash a girl or a guy who is kind of slutty, at the end of the day — you actually don’t. I mean, we all love herpes right? The gift that keeps on giving.
So, if you go to church somewhere in the world, let me tell you what your Pastor is really trying to say right now.
Love the one you’re with. — Every Pastor in the World
Right now in the Christian world it’s cool to watch Joel Osteen, Steven Furtick, Hillsong or whomever online. They have the best streams, they have the best marketing and you don’t want to miss what may be happening. They make it feel ‘un-missable’.
So, you get sucked in and join in on everything they do. That’s awesome that you are supporting all of these great ministries, but what about your local church and your local pastor? How are you supporting them.
And, let me be more blunt.
If you have electronic payment setup for your bills, do you have it setup for your church? If you don’t, do it now. Love the one you’re with. I don’t even want to get into the whole ‘where your treasure is, there will your heart be sermon.’
Some may want to argue me here about tithing and all that sort of stuff. This isn’t a post about tithing, it’s a post about support. It’s a post about loving the m’fing one you’re with, period.
When your pastor posts about Live events to join for your church but you don’t think they are cool enough — that’s not the f’ing point. Love the one you’re with.
When your pastor asks for you to share about what your church is doing on social media and you don’t think it’s cool enough — that’s not the f’ing point. Love the one you’re with.
If you skip your own local church live experience because you don’t think it’s cool enough — that’s not the f’ing point. Love the one you’re with.
Bottom line is stop being a church slut for a second.
Make sure you are fully supporting your local church. That is the place where you are called and you have to own that. If you think God is calling you to bigger and better churches … maybe he f’n is; but my gut says you are leaving your love for a quick smash.
Right now your pastor needs you to know you are there. Churches around the world large and small are working their *** off to inspire and love you. Don’t treat their love with disdain and slut it out. You’re better than that.
Let me finish with this.
I grew up in a smaller church. When you’re in a small church, you always look to the innovative churches. You think everything they do is awesome and your church sucks. I know, I’ve been there, I get it.
This is an opportunity for you to give your energy and resources to your local church. Now, more than ever, your local, small and maybe even ‘lame’ church needs you. Your pastor needs you. His team needs you.
This isn’t the time to be the cool one — it’s the time to be the consistent one.
This post is kind of sloppy in nature and may not have all the perfection it should. But, it was on my heart and I’d hate for one of you to miss out on something really special at your church because you were too caught up slutting your energy out with everyone else.
Love the one you’re with. 💜
