TRUST THE PROCESS
‘I pray with great faith for you , because I’m fully convinced that the One who began this glorious work in you will faithfully continue the process of maturing you and will put his finishing touches to it until the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ!’ Philippians 1:6
‘being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; ‘ Philippians 1:6
If you ever had a 💩 day, this is one of the verses you go to.
It’s like when your favorite sports team gets blown out and the guys at the press conference say, “we just gotta trust the process.”
I was curious about the origination of the “trust the process” idea, so I looked it up.
Trust the Process is a slogan used by fans of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, though it has since become popular elsewhere in sports and culture. Coined during a rough patch for the team, it basically means “things may look bad now, but we have a plan in place to make it better."
This is exactly what Paul is writing to the Philippian crew.
He’s saying, “hey, you hit a rough patch, it’s ok, carry on.”
I wrote a few days ago how I lost everything in the stock market.
That was a pretty low weak for me.
If you haven’t read it yet — you can catch it here.
As as I came to the realization of losing it all, my dad said to me, “never give up.” That was huge for me. I needed to heart that but I also needed to spend some time with Jesus. I was like “what the heck just happened to my life?” I needed to remind myself to “trust the process.”
This verse is a great verse but you also have to remember that the process is tough. It’s not always rainbows and smiles from everyone. The process is maturing you, it’s growing you, it’s building you. It’s crafting you to become all that GOD has for you.
It’s really, really difficult.
If you’re experiencing difficulty, that’s normal.
That is growth.
I heard Pastor Steven Furtick say something the other day that was fitting:
Your tolerance for tension determines your potential for growth. — Steven Furtick
The formula for growth is time under tension.
So, when you’re feeling tension, that is your moment for growth.
It may seem odd or feel weird but just remember He is the potter and you are the clay.
‘But now, O Lord , You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.’ Isaiah 64:8
We are the work of his hands.
God is the master builder.
The ultimate creator.
Watch what Paul says as he finishes the verse in Philippians. He writes, “God will put his finishing touches to it.” The “it” is you. And the finishing touches are the sweetest parts of who you are. The best bits.
So yah, God is working on you.
Difficult seasons will arise to mature you.
They suck most of the time.
But, instead of viewing them negatively, look at them to be notorious.
The tension is the opportunity.
The pain is the progress.
The maturity is for the masterpiece.
That masterpiece is you.
Let’s go!
O wait, let’s pray:
Jesus, help me today to see the maturing as part of your masterpiece.
I know it hurts, but thank you for putting your finishing touches on me.
Help me in the tension.
Help me in the pain.
I trust you.
I know you got me.
I love you.
