THE WOLF ON THE HILL

--

The wolf on the hill is never as hungry as the wolf climbing the hill.

What are you hungry for in your life? Do you have dreams or goals that energize your soul? Do they keep you up at night or whisper to you during the day? If not, why not? If not now, have you ever?

I remember being a little boy and drawing pictures of a giant house where me and my friends would live. It was massive. It looked like something Floyd Mayweather would live in. It was huge, insane and even had a giant gate in front. It looked like a miniature version of Disneyland. I was a boy, I was dreaming and I loved every bit of it.

However, as I got older, I realized how much a house like that would cost. The dream of a giant house faded. I sort of laughed at that drawing I had done as a little boy. I even felt a little dumb.

But, that is what dreaming is for. A dream is meant to be at war with your mind. Our minds our practical, our dreams are meant to be impossible, or are they? I love this quote from Audrey Hepburn which says, “nothing is impossible, the words itself says, ‘I’m possible!’”

So, let me ask again, what are you hungry for? What do you want to learn, what do you want to do or accomplish? If you are the wolf climbing the hill, what are you climbing for? What is your “why” to reach the peak? Is it clear? Can you write it down in a sentence? Can you recite it as quick as your name or where you’re from? If not, then it’s not in you deep enough.

When you know what you want, your hunger for it will increase. Your hunger is essentially your willingness to grow. NO HUNGER, NO GROWTH, it’s that simple.

So, when you’re scrolling instagram and wishing it was you at those amazing destinations, restaurants, or hotels, ask yourself — “why am I not able to do those things? What is holding me back?”

I love the way Eric Thomas frames this question about what’s holding you back when he says, “I’m not amazing because (fill in the blank). If you’re not willing to give 100% percent, you can’t expect a 100% life. You have to kill excuses.”

What excuses are sneaking into your dreams?

Maybe you say, “O, I’m not a morning person. Or maybe it’s, I don’t have enough money for that course or book? Or maybe it’s, I don’t have a college education for that job. Or maybe it’s, I’m not good enough to try that one thing that could get you on the path to your dream.

All of what I mentioned above has to be killed. You have to destroy those thoughts before they ultimately destroy your future. As Jim Rohn says, “you are a magnet to your past or your future, but you must decide.”

Recently, I listened to a podcast with Robin Sharma. I love this dude. He’s the guy who popularized the 5am club. Now, I must admit, I’m not on the 5am club at the moment, however, from time to time, I am. But, here’s one of the reasons I love about his “why” to the 5am club when he says, “Getting up early is a great gift to give yourself. It gives you an edge on your competitors.”

If there’s one thing I need, it’s an edge on my competitors. As I’ve said before, I barely graduated high school, I left college early, my credentials are not shiny and those are some of my reasons why “getting an edge” is so important.

Here’s another thought for you from Eric Thomas which says, “what are you doing with your day and time? How can you expect to be the 1% when you don’t give 100%.”

Maybe your like, “whoa bro, chill out man. Life is meant to be enjoyed.” My rebuttal to that is, when your the wolf climbing the hill, your hunger will drive you to enjoy the journey and process. The climb is the joy because you can see what’s on the other side. Faith is the ability to see the invisible.

When I was a young boy a good friend by the name of Peter Daniels said this to me, “Anthony, the prize is always greater than the price.” There is a recipe for success and it will take everything you have to achieve. I love what Gary Vaynerchuk says about success as well when he says, “If you want to be an anomaly, act like one.”

You cannot exchange average for greatness. Period.

Time is ticking today. No matter if you choose to learn or choose to “just live,” it is ticking. The only thing you can do with your time is fill it with your dreams or fill it by default. It is completely up to you. You are your own master. No one can do it for you.

Before you embark on your journey today, let me leave you with one last thing. By now I hope you know the importance of your words. The power they have on your life and your day. This little mantra from Eric Thomas is so simple, yet so powerful and it goes like this.

Look in the mirror each day and say this to yourself:

I can

I will

I must

Repeat it over and over. Then, add to it.

I can achieve ….

I will achieve …

I must achieve …

Repeat it over and over. Then add to it. What obstacle do you need to overcome to achieve your dream?

I can overcome …

I will overcome …

I must overcome …

This is your daily ritual to achieving your goals. You have the power of life or death in your mouth. You have the power to create your world and energize your soul simply by using your words to become the architect to your future.

In the words of Eric Thomas, why not “make the rest of your life the best of your life.”

Now get out there and learn something.
