Darren Wilson, a white police officer, was responding to a report of shoplifting when he confronted Mike Brown, who’d taken a pack of cigarillos from a convenience store. Wilson then shot and killed Brown, whose body would be left at the scene for over four hours, exposed to the hot summer sun. — Excerpt from “When They Call You a Terrorist”
It’s not enough to bring “racism” to light. It’s not enough to bring “discussions” around racism. Sure, those are good and I think make white people feel better about themselves — but, once again, most of these “discussions” are built around white people feeling better about themselves.
If you’re white and not admitting to racism — it’s a problem. If you’re white and still posting about your “Saturday Vibes,” — it’s a 🤬 n problem. If you’re white and think this will pass like the others — that’s a problem. If you’re white making arguments like, “why can protestors go in the streets but we can’t go shopping,” — that’s a 🤬 ‘n problem.
Black lives such as George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and others have been killed because of racism. And, if your first thought is, “well, they were on drugs,” or “they disobeyed the cops,” — that’s a big 🤬 ‘n problem.
Racism begins with constant police presence in black communities as opposed to white communies. Racism thrives on punishing blacks more than whites. Racism builds on the narrative that blacks are “dangerous” and “criminals” and need to be “put in their place.” That is the American story white people have been served without asking WHY?
What is the why?
That is where you and I must do our part. It’s not enough to hold up signs and march. It’s not enough to donate to a causes so you can feel good. It’s time to give your most valuable asset to the cause — YOUR TIME — YOUR ATTENTION!
Read the stories and laws of WHY this narrative is being told. It’s time to search for truth to better understand the WHY. Look back, read the stories and watch the videos of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Laquan McDonald, Philando Castile, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others.
Let those sink into your soul.
Then, imagine one of those was one of your children or a brother or a sister. Imagine the grief. Imagine no justice. Feel THAT for a second.
Then, give more of your time. This is an awakening in the USA and will not go away until all are humbled.
