SEEK

‘Seek the Lord , all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord ’s anger.’ Zephaniah 2:3

I’ve been saying this a lot lately, “what you seek, you will find.” This verse hits that statement right on the head. Whatever it is you are looking for, if you seek it, you will find it. Well, maybe not the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I reckon just about everything else.

So, what are you seeking? What ideas and thoughts are running like a river in your mind that you so desperately want?

The other night we started watching a show called Alone. It’s basically a reality show where 10 people are dropped in the middle of nowhere. The nowhere is a place called Patagonia. Whoever can survi

ve the longest wins $500,000.

It’s a crazy show. The idea of not just survival against the forces of nature, but also survival of being alone. These contestants are out there by themselves. Without getting into the whole show, one of the people said something during the episode that caught me. He said, “I’m doing this to make my daughter proud. I want to build her a house of her own.”

This is what he so desperately wants to do. It’s a dream of his. His career is a drywaller and he knows that he won’t be able to make this dream happen without an influction of cash to his life. He sees no other way, and so, he enters this contest with hopes and dreams of winning.

I haven’t completed the season, so I don’t know if he wins. The idea though is captivating. Which brings me back to asking you the question again, “what are you seeking?”

What dreams are you seeking. What pictures in your mind do you have of yourself? Maybe yes, like this contestant, they seem impossible. However, our minds and lives are funny with how opportunities present themselves.

I also think about things I should be seeking. Like for instance, this verse tells us to “seek righteousness, seek humility.” If I was honest, I don’t know how often I seek humility? I’m not really sure but I do know how important it is.

I’ve been seeking how to create great moments for our family. Moments with my wife, moments with the kids, moments as a family — stuff like that. I don’t get this time back again with them. It’s gone, so I want to be sure I’ve done my best in this season. My hope is for them to get older and tell me stuff like, “hey dad, remember when we went to the beach and went boogie boarding?” I want them to tell me stuff like, “dad, remember when we went out on our date to Sprinkles cupcakes?”

There’s not many things I can control in this life. I do know I can control the ability to create beautiful moments for my bride and babies. Moments that inspire them to believe they can do anything they want.
