ROB LOWE SHARES THREE TYPES OF PERSONAS TO HELP YOU LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE

As I peddled this morning, I listened to Jay Shetty and Rob Lowe exchange insights into spirituality. I was quite surprised to hear Rob speak about growing up in a Methodist home and how it shaped his view of God and prayer. Well, maybe I wasn’t surprised. It’s shocking how many times I hear people swear off God because of a childhood experience with church and religion.

Fortunately for Rob, he found his path again when he checked himself into rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. It was his “humbling moment” to a higher power. Now, he speaks about kneeling to pray to a higher power and how it took him a long time to do that.

But, what caught me the most about this interview was a story he told about which type of person you should aspire to be in life. The story goes that you want to divide the circle into three parts. The first part or type of person you want to be is Curly from the Three Stooges. The second type of person you want to aspire to be like is Ghandi and the third type of person is Clint Eastwood.

Each type of person has their strengths and you want to have a bit of each. The problem arises when you have too much of one of them. For instance, too much Ghandi and no one wants to be around you. Everything is boring, sentimental and maybe too perfect.

In the same way, no one wants too much of Clint Eastwood. Clint lacks empathy and compassion. He’s a stone, cold killer, intense and can suck the life out of you if you’re not careful. Have you ever been around someone like Clint Eastwood? If you have, you feel like you’re going to die, it’s just plain overwhelming. However, sometimes, you need that intensity in relationships or at your work place. Sometimes you need to kick ass and take names — that’s when Clint Eastwood is what you need.

The third type of person is Curly from the Three Stooges. This is the happy, fun, anything goes type of person. We all need a bit of Curly in our lives each day, but too much Curly and you’ll be labeled a “fool.” We need the joy of Curly in our day but not too much so people don’t take us seriously or care about our words. The class clown is funny but it can also be that people are laughing at you and not with you.

So, all of these people shape who we are in each and every day. These are the types of personas we need to have to juggle the day and live our best life. What a great idea for us to view who or what type of person life needs in the day.

Before we go into the day, I want to include a few quotes from each of these personas. Maybe it will help us remember which type of person we need for the situations we face today. I know it will help me remember and I hope it helps you too.

Sometimes if you want to see a change for the better, you have to take things into your own hands. — Clint Eastwood

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. — Mahatma Gandhi

If at first you don’t succeed, keep on sucking till you do succeed. — Curly Howard (Three Stooges)
