When someone says, “I’ve got your back,” it can mean so many things. For some, it could literally mean, “I will ride or die with you” — which is what we all WANT. For others, it’s a casual throw away line — which I hate. Like, really hate.
I’m a word guy and was brought up that way. You say what you mean and mean what you say. If you can’t do it — don’t F’N SAY IT.
Too many people are so desperate to please people they say all kinds of 💩. As I think of it now, I can feel irritation all over me. I’m like, ugh — WTF! I’m getting annoyed just thinking about people like that. Ahhhhhhhh!
That’s my lens on life — it is what it is and I have to manage that. Everything runs thought that filter. As I’ve aged, I’ve had to realize that most people are full of 💩. That’s just the world we live in. Now that I know that — I get less irritated with people. It just reminds me how full of 💩 people really are.
This verse in Isaiah is God saying, “I got your back.” This is also when the Bible can get a little vague.
Does God have your back? Absolutely!
Does God have your back at the moment when you want? Nope!
He’s God and his timing is on another level. This is the sort of thing that could really frustrate me. So many times I would bark at God and be like, “WTF — I thought you had my back?”
He most certainly had my back every time — just not on my time.
This helped me to grow and adapt in this area. It’s not a clear issue — it’s a timing issue. Maybe you can even say it’s a TIME ZONE issue.
It’s like me in California wanting God to have my back at 7pm PST. However, maybe God’s rolling on London time — I dunno. Our timing is all crossed up.
What I have to remember is the story of Lazarus. I mean, if there wasn’t a more f’d up story about timing.
Lazarus is one of Jesus’ best friends. I mean, the Bible even says he f’n wept when he died. Jesus had genuine sorrow for his friend as you and I would.
However, Jesus could have easily left what he was doing to go and heal Lazarus. But, he waited till Lazarus was dead for days. Don’t even get me started on how PISSED I would be.
So, if Jesus was willing to let one of his best homies die for three days — I guess my concerns and requests will be handled in the time He deems necessary.
And, for the record — we all remember the story of the Lazarus. Jesus turned a mess into a miracle and the legend lives on.
So yah — God does have my back. And yah — I’m not a patient person and God knows that. So, when He does show up, it’s in the right timing with so many life lessons attached.
I’ll leave you with something I said to my boy Roscoe last night. He was looking over his trophy’s in his room and said to me, “look at all those wins we got dad (referring to when I coached his flag football team).”
I said, “yup — those were some good runs.” I then said to him, “even if all of those were losses and you had no trophy’s — you still win. Even losses are wins because of the lessons you learn.”
Always be learning and you’ll never lose.
