‘Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. ‘ John 15:13

It’s Memorial Day and the only thing I can think about is all of the men and women who have literally GIVEN their LIFE for me to sit here FREE. They went through horrific experiences. They gave up their families. They put their own dreams aside. They battled ultimate fear and terror for unknown people like myself.

That is a big f’n sacrifice. They bled, they died for people like you and me. People they will never meet.

So today, I picked out 20 of my favorite quotes from war heroes — patriots of our country. It’s extremely inspiring to me and something I hope we all can learn a little bit from.

Thank you to all who have served. You mean more than you realize.

  1. Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more. — George S. Patton
  2. Always do everything you ask of those you command. — George S. Patton
  3. Better to fight for something than live for nothing. — George S. Patton
  4. Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom. — George S. Patton
  5. It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it. — Douglas MacArthur
  6. We are not retreating — we are advancing in another direction — Douglas MacAurthur
  7. Never give an order that can’t be obeyed. — Douglas MacArthur
  8. Never neglect details. When everyone’s mind is dulled or distracted the leader must be doubly vigilant. — Colin Powell
  9. Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership. — Colin Powell
  10. Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand. — Colin Powell
  11. In every battle there comes a time when both sides consider themselves beaten, then he who continues the attack wins. — Ulysses S. Grant
  12. It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle. — Norman Schwarzkopf
  13. You learn far more from negative leadership than from positive leadership. Because you learn how not to do it. And, therefore, you learn how to do it. — Norman Schwarzkopf
  14. True courage is being afraid, and going ahead and doing your job anyhow, that’s what courage is. — Norman Schwarzkopf
  15. The education of a man is never completed until he dies. Robert E. Lee
  16. In all my perplexities and distresses, the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength. — Robert E. Lee
  17. I cannot trust a man to control others who cannot control himself. — Robert E. Lee
  18. I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free… so other people would be also free. — Rosa Parks
  19. People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn’t true. I was not tired physically… No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in. — Rosa Parks
  20. Some of the best advice I’ve had comes from junior officers and enlisted men. — Chester W. Nimitz
