LESSONS FROM JIM ROHN

You don’t get paid for the hour. You get paid for the value you bring to the hour. — Jim Rohn

Take a deep breathe. Listen to the sounds around you. This is your day and your moment. There will never be another day like today. See the day full of opportunities. Visualize what those could be. Match your goals and dreams with what those opportunities may bring forth. You’re destined for greatness, don’t waste any time.

As I listened to Jim Rohn the other day, I could feel the energy inside of me bubble. Energy to create. Energy to dream. Energy to put action around those dreams. This is the importance to having “OQP” or in other words, “only quality people” in your life. The energy I received was just too much for me not to share some of it with you. So, here are a few thoughts that boosted my soul.

The greatest pull in your life is the pull of the future. — Jim Rohn

A friend of mine used to open up an app and show me pictures and videos of the past. I think the app was called “timehop.” He loved it and to be honest, it was pretty cool. The problem wasn’t that he reflected in the past but rather how much he “missed” the past.

He would tell me how great life was back then, how cheap everything was and overall, I could see — he was enjoying the past more than the present or the future. After a few years of seeing this, it was inevitable, he changed his life to move back toward his past.

This is exactly what Jim is sharing in this quote. The pull of the future, must be greater than the pull of the past.

So, what about you? What are you focusing on, the past or the future? What thoughts captivate your mind, thoughts of the past or of the future? What sort of “OQP” are around your life, people who move toward the future or the past? What are you pressing toward today?

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 NKJV

It’s goals that drive us to take advantage of the spring. — Jim Rohn

First off, you have to have a goal. So, have you taken the time to write down your goals and dreams? What do you want your life to look like in five years? In five years you and I will land at a destination. The question is, “will your destination be by design or default?”

I’ll share a little secret with you right now. You do not want your five year destination to be by default. You will not enjoy where it will take you. However, if you have your goals and dreams written down and focused on yearly, monthly, weekly and daily, you will arrive at a designed destination.

This is why knowing what you want is so important. The quote above by Jim mentions taking advantage of the spring. Well, what does that mean? It seems vague and mystical right?

Here’s what Jim is saying.

A farmer doesn’t question why he plants seeds in the spring. He just does it. It seems so normal. It’s normal to us because we know the end result. We know that in the fall, there will be a harvest.

The farmer can see the goal before it ever happens. He dreams of the goal, he knows the goal. And, he knows what it will take to get there. If he does not plant in the spring, he will have nothing in the future. And you know what, he doesn’t want to take anything to chance. He wants to design his future.

So, what are you planting in the spring? What harvest are you expecting in the future? What type of seeds and quantity of seeds will you need to plant to expect your harvest in the future?

This is a revolutionary question to ask yourself. It’s a question which will set you apart each and every day.

Show me your seeds and I’ll show you your future.

Ok, here’s one last quote from Jim.

Decide what you want and act as if it was already yours. — Jim Rohn

Last night I watched the Miami Heat take on the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. It was game four and Miami had the series lead 2–1. This was an important game. No team, let alone the infamous Boston Celtics want to go down 3–1 in a series. It’s a death sentence. And, Miami knew, they had to play their best to win.

Well, on comes Tyler Herro. A rookie who was having an incredible season. A rookie playing alongside the likes of Jimmie Butler and Goran Dragic. He’s just a rookie, but last night, he played like an MVP.

He scored more points in one game last night than he did in all of college and all of his first professional season. The kid was on fire. He was taking shots from all over the court and hitting them. Not just any shots, like Steph Curry-esque shots. And, he was playing great defense. His game last night was untouchable and guess what, Miami got the win.

The kid was playing as if the win and the moment was already his. He wasn’t worried about the Boston Celtics or what people thought of him. Even on one occasion late in the game, he took a long three and missed. I know if it was me I’d be a little discouraged. Not Tyler Herro, the kid just kept shooting, playing defense and leading the team.

I sat on the couch and said to myself, “this kid is legit.”

He most certainly was legit. He understood as a rookie what it was going to take to make an impact on the team. He believed the game and the win was already his. He knew he was worthy of the moment. He didn’t need to ask permission, he simply acted on what he already knew.

So, what about you? What do you want and are you prepared to act upon it? Is it a business you want to start? Are you acting like a business owner? Is it a promotion at your workplace? Are you acting as if the promotion was already yours?

This is one of the keys to greatness and it’s reserved for anybody. Even people like you and me. Greatness is waiting for you. It’s calling your name. Are you listening? Do you care? Will you act?

Don’t forget, today is your day. You can craft it any way you like.

O, and here’s a link to some more Jim Rohn if you need another shot of courage.
