If You Had One Thing To Do On This Earth, Start Here

‘He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness, and honor.’ Proverbs 21:21 NKJV

‘The lovers of God who chase after righteousness will find all their dreams come true: an abundant life drenched with favor and a fountain that overflows with satisfaction.’ Proverbs 21:21 TPT

‘Whoever goes hunting for what is right and kind finds life itself — glorious life!’ Proverbs 21:21 MSG

I put this verse in three different translations for those of us, like me, who can’t figure out which one makes sense the most. Big picture, the question of the day is this — are you chasing, hunting or following after what is right?

The words used in this verse require action. Words like, “follow”, “chase” and “hunt” are BIG words. For me, this goes back to my annual verse of Psalm 91 and whether or not my day is constructed with any “secret place” time with God.

Welcome to self awareness 101. If you are chasing after God, are you doing it as much as you watch the news, check your instagram feed or share deadly reports of Covid-19 doom? Are you aggressively chasing the good things of God or are you “kind of” dong it?

I’m laughing in my head right now as I keep hearing some of those cheesy Christian DJ’s on the radio. They usually say something like this, “are you having trouble with worry or fear, then it’s time to run to the father. Let’s listen to Cody Cairnes, ‘Run to the Father’ right now.”

Cheese but true. Just the picture of running to the Father is such a good visual. It requires action, intensity and purpose. And you know what, it’s fn hard. It’s so much easier to feast on your phone. But you know what, it’s extremely rewarding. You have to remember it’s a muscle like anything else, you have to strengthen it.

Why not start today. In the midst of chaos, to hunt, chase and follow the right things God is wanting for us. There is blessings attached, but the chase has to be greater than the fear.

The blessings in this verse are ridiculous. They seem too good to be true. I think that is why sometimes we just give up. It’s like, no fn way will I have favor, blessing and honor just by spending time hunting after God. But, have you tried? Can you replace anything in your life today for time to chase after God? Have you tested the theory?

I want to give you a few more blessings as to why it’s so critical.

You have granted me life and favor, And Your care has preserved my spirit. Job 10:12 NKJV

For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord ; Proverbs 8:35 NKJV

Fools mock at sin, But among the upright there is favor. Proverbs 14:9 NKJV

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the Lord . Proverbs 18:22 NKJV

Ok, so I through the last one in for all of you who are married. If you have a wife, favor from the Lord is attached. That is huge. There is a blessing right in front of you in your spouse. You better get that ish …

So the mission today: Follow, hunt and chase after the right things of God. Here is a few ideas to get you going.

  1. Start in the morning with time with God, skip your phone. Get a device that you only read the Bible on or use paper.
  2. Use your car as your place to start chasing Jesus. Get a playlist. Here is one I use on Spotify → Worship Now Playlist
  3. Ask God for a yearly verse or chapter. Something you can get into every single day. Know it, recite it, destroy it.
  4. Set a screen time limit on your phone. Trade time on your phone for time with God.
  5. Create a daily habit with your time with God. Find a time in the day or link it with something else you do. A major Pastor I know doesn’t eat breakfast until he has his time with God.
  6. Make a place in your home just for your time with God. Some may have a room others may have a chair you sit in. Honor God with your pursuit. As you draw close to Him, He draws close to you.
  7. I mentioned a playlist, I find when I entirely switch over to worship music, it’s much easier to lean into and hunt after God. The Bible says, “prayer stills the avenger.” Praise is a weapon — use it to craft your day.

Feel free to share if you have others. This is the day the Lord has made. He knew before the world began about today. Make his name known.

Let’s pray:
Jesus, help me today. I need help chasing after you. I know I can do it but need a push from you to get stuff going. I want to glorify your name. I want more of your purpose in my life. Use me today. Someone needs what I got. Love you. Amen.
