‘Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.’ Psalms 51:10 NKJV

‘Create a new, clean heart within me. Fill me with pure thoughts and holy desires, ready to please you.’ Psalms 51:10 TPT

Can you remember back when you were just a dirty human being. I don’t mean personal hygiene, I’m talking about the dirtiness of sin, like the dirty dirty.

When I rewind my brain back to my days of sin, maaaaaaaaaan, they are bad. When I look back and remember all the people I belittled, disrespected, lied to or tried to take advantage of, geez, it’s bad. Like what a dirty human being. And this dirtiness, brings me right into David in Psalm 51.

We all have stories of our not so best days. And, thank God, those days are or can be behind us. When you read through Psalm 51, know that David was writing through a disgusting time in his life. The legend of David’s purity is now tarnished.

The dude had a guy killed because he wanted to sleep with his wife. It doesn’t get more Soprano’s than that. Read the whole Psalm 51, David is in anguish. He comes to verse 10 and we read it like, “oh yes, a clean heart, that’s what I want. A super suburban life. O, I’m so blessed.” F that, if I was David, I’d be screaming and crying in my car for mercy.

The reality here is David is disturbed. The dude is screaming for mercy for such a horrible thing he had done. He recognized his lack of dependance on God. He cries out for God to hear him and then prays this prayer for a clean heart.

Even when you suck, God still saves.

Know that!
Whether you think your sins are worse than others doesn’t matter. What God is looking for is clean hands and a pure heart. And, the best part, you can ask God for it. You may be like, “yah, I suck, and for some reason, I don’t really feel like getting into God type stuff.” All good, that’s what David is saying in this verse. He’s like, “God, I suck, help me, clean my heart.”

Ask God for a pure heart.

We think we have to do all this crazy stuff to try and be this perfect person. Bottom line, we all suck and that causes us to lean on Jesus. There’s not a perfect formula, so just ask. If you can order a cheeseburger at Mcdonald’s you can ask for a clean heart. Keep it simple and listen to what He says.

I want to please you.

Another simple prayer to God. We’ve all missed it. We’ve filled our days with worry and anxiety, it’s ok. Now, you and I can do something. Let’s determine to please God.

How do we do that?

And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him. Hebrews 11:6 TPT

Just fn believe God, it’s that simple.
The Bible says the promises of God are yes and amen. (2 Cor. 1:20)
The Bible says that you’re the head and not the tail. (Deut. 28:13)
The Bible says that God goes before you.
The Bible says that God is for you and on your side. (Heb. 13:6)

So here’s the kicker in these moments of worry, anxiousness and fear. When we have faith, we please God. And, when we please God, we are creating clean hearts. We are reverse engineering the scripture.

A day in quarantine is a day full of faith. Deploy faith today. Use your mouth as an architect for your future. Don’t rely on your words or your strength, open up the Word of God and declare these promises. Get dirty with it, get bold, be you, that’s what God is after.

Let’s pray:
Jesus, we all need clean hearts. Help me with mine.
I ask you today to give me faith to please you.
And not a little Faith. Let my faith spill over to others.
I want to be a light in darkness.
Faith to the faithless.
Put courage in me for others.
I need you. Amen.
