I LOVE THE UNITY OF #BLACKOUTTUESDAY BUT I WON’T BE SILENT

The idea of #blackouttuesday is beautiful in nature. A movement started by the music industry and observed by everyone from Katy Perry to Kevin Hart. I love it and it’s needed 100 percent.

However, the issue I have, is the social media “black out.” Why would you stop from posting anything about what is happening to black people? When you’re in a battle and you have the enemy on the run — you don’t pause to rest? You keep the fight into them. You add more pressure — more will.

While I do get it — I 100 percent agree with what Lil Nas X had to say, “i know y’all mean well but… bro saying stop posting for a day is the worst idea ever,” he then added, “it’s information that needs to be spread! the movement needs to be pushed forward! not silenced for a day.”

If you need more understanding about what to do, be sure to follow Shaun King. He won’t be stopped in any way shape or form.

Here’s some basic I’m doing to keep the fight moving.

Share what is happening regarding protests in your area. There is no reason why the momentum should be stopped in any way. Yes, observe #blackouttuesday and support — however, do more. Hell — protest on your street. Unify with others for these moments.

Educate yourself on what is happening. Look into the history of #blacklivesmatter. It’s utterly tragic and until you understand the WHY — you won’t understand the CRY.

Build bridges and reach out. The Bible calls on us to “humble ourselves.” If you’re WHITE — now’s your chance. You may not ever have another moment like this in your life to share in the pain of others. If you feel scared or fearful — lean into it. No one is perfect and your kindness and compassion will speak volumes. Your silence will also speak. Make the right choice today.

If you have kids — educate them. My kids are on the front line with me on this. They are watching police brutality videos, they are studying #blacklivesmatter and they WILL BE better because of it. Lead your home on these issues. If you don’t — you’re part of the problem.
