HOW I’M ADDING MORE JOY IN MY LIFE
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4 NKJV
Rejoice always, I Thessalonians 5:16 NKJV
But let the righteous be glad; Let them rejoice before God; Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly. Psalms 68:3 NKJV
As I was walking this morning, this verse in Philippians popped up in my head. “Rejoice in the Lord always.” That was the sentence on repeat in my mind. And so, I began to think about it. I began to ask myself questions like, “do you rejoice in the Lord always?
What does rejoicing in the Lord look like?
What does ‘rejoice’ actually mean?
Am I joyful?
The word ‘rejoice’ I think was throwing me off, so here is the definition: ‘to feel or show great delight.’
More questions flooded my mind. Questions like, ‘do I feel great delight?
When have I last felt great delight?
Do I show great delight?
What do I find delightful?
Do I find the things of God delightful?
Do I feel delightful spiritually?
I could go on and on questioning myself, but what about you? Have you thought about these questions? Have you asked yourself these questions? I mean, where do you begin right?
So like I said, I’m walking up this mountain thinking and asking myself all these questions when another idea popped in my head. As I was thinking about ‘rejoicing’, I landed on the word ‘joy’.
I almost felt like the word ‘rejoice’ was just a remix of the word ‘joy’ right? So I began to think about joy in my life. Joy in my mind, at work, with my family, with my friends and on my face. I was like, “do I have a joyful face?” How much joy is really in my life? Am I intentional regarding joy?
Ugh right, So many questions? Which is why I love this quote from Tony Robbins, “successful people ask better questions and as a result, they get better answers.”
In my life, I want answers. I want to dig so deep into the questions of my own life that I strike gold in as many areas as I can. The book of Proverbs says it like this regarding wisdom: “and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.”
Ok, so what about today? What can we all do right now?
I’m starting with going after joy. It starts with a smile on my face and gratefulness for what I do have in life. It starts with laughing my wife and kids, it starts with thanking God for his blessings on my life. I can be joyful because God has been so good to me.
It’s almost like Marie Kondo, author of the book The Illustrated Guide to the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up asking you this question, “does it spark joy?”
We can all take the joy we have, remix it and make new joy. I call this ‘re-joice’. We remember the joy we have, remix it and make more joy. We are constantly creating joy in our life. Reminding ourselves of what God has done for us. I mean, it does say in the Bible, “rejoice in the Lord always.”
If it says ‘always’, we better figure out a way to make that happen. This is my goal today. Enjoying the joy I have an remixing more for the future.
