God vs The Bank
Simple questions to reveal who’s #1
Jesus went on to make these comments: If you’re honest in small things, you’ll be honest in big things; If you’re a crook in small things, you’ll be a crook in big things. If you’re not honest in small jobs, who will put you in charge of the store? No worker can serve two bosses: He’ll either hate the first and love the second Or adore the first and despise the second. You can’t serve both God and the Bank. — Luke 16:10
Big words to start the day, God or the Bank?
So what is trust?
The dictionary defines it like this: “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”
Some other definitions are the following: “to rely on the truthfulness or accuracy”
“to place confidence in” or “to hope or expect confidently”
Again, big words to BANK on.
So, let’s go back to God vs the Bank?
We trust that when we deposit funds in our bank account, we retrieve them whenever we want.
We rely or put our confidence in the bank that it will provide us the funds that we deposited.
Pretty cut and dry.
We deposit money.
We retrieve money.
So, what about God?
Does God take deposits?
Do we retrieve those deposits?
Does God mimic Chase bank procedures?
This isn’t me giving answers to you but rather just placing questions on the table. Think about them on your own.
Ok, so what about the word SERVE here?
Some definitions of the word SERVE are the following: to be worthy of reliance or trust, to comply with the commands of, to answer the needs of.
Again, BIG words to consider when it comes to God vs the bank.
Just dwell on those thoughts for your own life.
Do you comply with the commands of God?
Do you even know or attempt to discover what the commands of God are for you?
Do you want to know or are you scared to find out?
Do you answer the needs of God?
I think you get the point.
When we get a $10 fee from the bank on our account we are the first to question or discover how this happened.
Why?
Because we have discovered and attempted to comply with the commands of the bank.
Plus, no one likes giving away free money.
So, where do we go from here?
I guess, ask yourself those questions.
Find out your own answers.
Imagine if Jesus was telling you this story.
How would you respond?
They are some very tough questions to ask.
I’m asking myself right now and yah, I’ve chosen understanding how the bank works more than I understand how God works.
It’s frustrating.
It’s humbling.
Or, at least it can be.
However, the gold in the verse is the elusive promise.
You’re like WHAT — there’s a promise.
Yes, Yes, Yes. God knows how to motivate us humans.
Jesus is asking, who will be put in charge over the store?
Yes, THE STORE. Let’s go big and say AMAZON.
Who’s going to run AMAZON?
It’s the one who is consistent in the small.
Mabye you can only trust small.
That’s ok — trust will grow.
And maybe, it grows to that AMAZON level.
